We left home this morning, stopped at the Farm House in Banning for lunch. We stayed at the Desert Garden RV Park in Quartzite. The desert is HOT but pretty. A lot of cottontail rabbits are running around.

We had a nice drive from Quartzite to Tucson, stopping in Buckeye for lunch at the Cracker Barrel. We stayed at the Prince of Tucson RV Park. It was beautiful, the sky a little cloudy, not too hot., and the birds were singing..

It was a little longer drive today, but nice. We finally stopped for lunch in Lordsberg, NM at Kranberry's. There just wasn't much before then. We're at the Sunny Acres RV Park in Las Cruces. It's a Passport America park. They have good free WiFi, cable TV, and a close-by grocery store. They have nice pull-thru sites with trees. The weather is warm, but not too hot - just right.

We left Las Cruces and drove all the way to Sierra Blanca, TX, for a Mexican lunch. One can drive a long ways and not have any facilities! It was a beautiful, peaceful drive, though. We are at the Parkview RV Park in Ft. Stockton. It's also a Passport America Park, has cable TV and good free WiFi. It's an older park, but quite nice. The weather is perfect!
25 May 2009
We drove to Kerrville, TX, arriving a day early at the Buckhorn RV Park. A couple of other members were also there..
26 May 2009
It's pretty at the RV park with a river and lakes, so we took walks and visited with friends as they came in from all around the country for the rally. We rented a car so we can look around before the rally starts tomorrow evening. Joe attended the board meeting in the afternoon, and the old and new board went to dinner at Billy Gene's restaurant for Texas food. Arden likes visiting with the other dogs!

We relaxed in the morning, then attended the Kerrville Rotary Club meeting for lunch. In the afternoon we drove to nearby Ingram to see the unique shops and galleries. We bought a hand crafted metal rooster for our yard and Leah bought some interesting earrings and pendant. Then we visited the James Avery jewelry visitors center and showroom. His work and designs are outstanding and expensive. Joe bought Leah a silver butterfly pendant. In the evening we had Happy Hour and our traditional "Heavy Hors d'oeuvre" pot luck.

After a continental breakfast we got on the bus. The first stop was to Fredericksberg and a tour of the National Museum of the Pacific War, home of the Admiral Nimitz Museum and the Japanese Peace Garden. We enjoyed a pasta lunch at the Cabernet Grill. We then toured the LBJ Ranch and his Texas White House. Since Lady Bird had died they are restoring the home so it's not all open to the public yet. It is still a working ranch with beautiful grounds. We then visited the Grape Creek Vineyards where we tasted and bought wines. We returned to camp in time for Happy Hour and a catered Pecan Chicken dinner. It started raining during dinner and poured and thundered most of the night.
29 May 2009
We started the day with biscuits and gravy then got on the bus for a tour of the Y.O. Ranch. http://www.yoranchgallery.com/index.html. It was fun seeing the animals and having a chuck wagon lunch. We toured the James Avery center. Leah bought a silver chain for the butterfly pendant she bought before. Then it was to the Museum of Western Art showing works by Cowboy Artists. They show beautiful, meaningful art in various media and alabaster and bronze sculptures by Joe Oreland. We had happy hour and a pot luck dinner in the evening. That was followed by a business meeting and the installation of officers where Joe was installed as a Pacific Zone director.
30 May 2009
Today we visited a replica of Stonehenge and Easter Island Statues. It's amazing what artists think to do! We also went to the Hill Country Museum. There was a lot of interesting art and cultural things to see.
31 May 2009
After a get-away breakfast we said good-byes, packed up and started home, spending the night in Fort Stockton, TX. It was very hot with heavy wind and thunder all night.
